Cookies and your privacy
This page explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on Folkingebrew, why we use them, and how you stay in control.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device so it can remember things between visits — like whether you’ve confirmed your age, or whether you’ve agreed to share anonymous usage data with us. Alongside cookies we also use localStorage, which works in a similar way but stores data only in your own browser (it’s never sent to our servers).
The categories we use
We split everything into two buckets so you can make a clear choice.
1. Essential — always on
These are needed for the site to work properly. They don’t track you, and you can’t switch them off, because without them parts of Folkingebrew simply break.
| Name | Type | Stored for | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
folkingebrew_age_verified |
localStorage | Until you clear it | Remembers that you’ve confirmed you’re old enough to view the site, so the age gate doesn’t appear on every page. |
folkingebrew_cookie_consent |
localStorage | 1 year | Remembers your cookie choice (accept / reject) so we don’t keep showing the banner. |
wp_woocommerce_session_* |
Cookie | 48 hours | WooCommerce session — keeps your shopping cart intact between pages. Only set once you add something to your cart or start a checkout. |
woocommerce_cart_hash /woocommerce_items_in_cart |
Cookie | Session | Tells the site your cart isn’t empty so the cart icon and mini-cart can update. |
Payment providers (Mollie) and our forms (Gravity Forms) may set short-lived cookies during a transaction to keep that transaction secure. These are essential to the payment or submission and are removed automatically afterwards.
2. Analytics — only if you accept
If — and only if — you click Accept in our cookie banner, we load Google Analytics. This helps us see things like which pages are popular, where visitors come from, and whether something on the site is broken. We use the data in aggregate; we don’t try to identify individual visitors.
| Name | Set by | Stored for | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | 2 years | Distinguishes one visitor from another. |
_ga_* |
Google Analytics | 2 years | Keeps session state for the property. |
_gid |
Google Analytics | 24 hours | Distinguishes visitors within a 24-hour window. |
If you choose Reject non-essential, the Google Analytics script is never loaded and these cookies are never set.
How you stay in control
- First visit. After you confirm your age, the cookie banner appears at the bottom of the screen with two options: Accept or Reject non-essential.
- Changing your mind. Once you’ve made a choice, the banner closes and a small cookie icon stays in the bottom-left corner. Click it any time to reopen the banner and switch your choice.
- Reset from your browser. Clearing your browser’s site data for folkingebrew.nl wipes everything we’ve stored locally, and you’ll be asked again on your next visit.
- Automatic refresh. Your choice is remembered for one year. After that we’ll ask again. We’ll also ask again if we change which cookies we use — we bump an internal policy version whenever the categories change, which invalidates older choices automatically.
Third parties
The only third-party service that may set cookies on the basis of your consent is Google Analytics (operated by Google Ireland Limited). Google’s own privacy information is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
Payment cookies set during checkout are handled by Mollie B.V. under their own privacy policy: mollie.com/privacy.
We don’t use advertising cookies, social-media tracking pixels, or cross-site tracking.
